Tesla Cybercab: fleet use and early customers

Tesla says Cybercabs are intended primarily for commercial use, rather than individual purchase. Production has started at Giga Texas, and the vehicles are initially being sent to Tesla for internal use. The hosts discuss the expected first customer deliveries by the end of 2026, the logistics of operating the cars, and the likelihood that early customers will be larger fleets. They suggest Tesla service centers could manage some initial fleets, while noting that the minimum scale and cost for independent operators remain unclear.

Unsupervised FSD and Tesla’s mapping approach

Tesla has said unsupervised Full Self-Driving is expected by the end of Q2 2027, initially in limited areas and under Tesla fleet management. The hosts discuss how the service could expand from existing and announced cities while remaining geofenced.

Tesla is also developing maps for FSD using road geometry, camera inputs, fleet data and real-time inference rather than relying on pre-built high-definition maps. The hosts compare the community-data aspect to Waze and discuss conversational commands and personalized routing. They say Google Maps is still expected to remain the visual map on the car’s center screen.

Musk’s proposed SpaceX shares for children

The hosts discuss Elon Musk’s statement that he plans to give each child in America a SpaceX share. They consider how a share’s value could change over time, using examples of past stock splits, and discuss how the proposal might relate to Trump accounts, business contributions to children and the idea of universal high income. They raise possible benefits and concerns, including whether such a plan could favor people who already have money.

Possible Tesla–SpaceX merger

A special committee with independent directors has been formed to study a possible merger, with Musk excluded from the committee. The hosts discuss possible areas of cooperation, while stressing that a merger is not certain. They explain the importance of a Tesla shareholder vote and discuss the unclear timing and possible meeting arrangements.

EV market rankings and automaker decisions

The hosts discuss Rivian moving to number two among U.S. EV brands in Q3 2026, while noting that Tesla’s sales are much higher and that many brands’ year-over-year comparisons reflect the earlier tax credit. They also discuss the Model Y’s global sales position, automakers’ differing approaches to EVs in the U.S., Europe and China, Toyota’s plans to build an EV in China, Subaru’s plans regarding gas-powered vehicles in Europe, and the role of tariffs.

Volkswagen ID.4 battery recall

Volkswagen is recalling about 23,000 U.S. ID.4 vehicles from 2023 to 2026 because of a battery-fire risk. The hosts say owners are being told not to charge above 80% until a permanent fix is available. They discuss a planned software update, the reported fires, the unknown root cause and the impact of limiting charging.

Tesla Roadster demonstration

The hosts discuss a Roadster demonstration in which the car appeared to hop or fly, with no person inside. They describe the event’s marketing impact and the attention it drew, then close with a note that further event videos are forthcoming.
