The Windows Wi-Fi Vulnerability

A critical Wi-Fi takeover vulnerability has been identified in Windows, assigned as CVE-2024-30078.
• Rated 8.8/10 in severity.
• Does not require physical access or user interaction.
• Allows remote code execution.

"It's one of those things like Blaster on Windows XP, where if you're installing off of a disk... and you had your ethernet cable plugged in, you would be completely destroyed before you even could install antivirus."

Users are strongly advised to run updates immediately to apply the mitigation.

Apple's WWDC: Finally Catching Up

Despite being an Apple ecosystem dabbler, Linus found this year's WWDC particularly notable. Apple introduced long-requested features that feel like a significant "attitude adjustment" rather than true innovation, prompted in part by legislative pressure.

Key Highlights

Home Screen Customization: Allows placing icons anywhere.
T9 Dialing: Finally added after years of user requests.
RCS Support: Improving cross-platform messaging.
ChatGPT Integration: Bringing AI into the OS with a balance of local and cloud processing.
App Locking and Hiding: Enhancing privacy for shared devices.

YouTube's Ad War

YouTube is testing server-side ad injection to combat ad blockers. By embedding ads directly into the video stream, they make it much harder for client-side blockers and tools like SponsorBlock to detect and remove them. Linus suggests this could change the landscape of sponsored content, potentially forcing creators to adopt more subtle or skippable integration methods.
